In the heart of Birmingham, Alabama, a beloved elementary school teacher's life was tragically cut short, leaving a community in mourning. Orlando Robinson, a 53-year-old male, was killed on Sunday, November 3, 2019, following a dispute that escalated to fatal violence. Robinson, a second-grade teacher at West End Academy, was a respected figure, known for his dedication to his students and his passion for education.
He was reportedly working on his Doctorate in Education at the time of his death.
On that Sunday afternoon, Birmingham police responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of 1st Street South. Upon arrival, they discovered Orlando Robinson in the street, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, the Jefferson County Coroner's office pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The investigation into Robinson's death quickly led to a suspect. Brandon Keith Taylor, 27, was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities stated that Taylor and Robinson had been involved in an altercation before the shooting occurred. Taylor was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Robinson's death. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced a charge of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. Following his arrest, Brandon Taylor was held in the Jefferson County Jail.
