On March 19, 2018, 29-year-old Jamaal Grimes died at UAB Hospital from gunshot wounds sustained the previous night in a home at 2501 29th Street Ensley in Birmingham's Fairview neighborhood. The incident occurred during a dispute inside the residence.

In May 2018, Deion Malik Sanford was arrested and charged with Grimes' murder. Sanford's defense attorney argued that the shooting was in self-defense. In December 2023, a jury acquitted Sanford of the murder charge, agreeing with the ...Read More
