In the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, a dispute inside a residence on the night of March 18, 2018, turned fatal for 29-year-old Jamaal Grimes. Grimes, a Black male, sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation at a home located at 2501 29th Street Ensley. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and died on March 19, 2018.

The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Deion Malik Sanford in May 2018. Sanford was subsequently charged ...
