On August 30, 2019, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at 5417 Watson Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 44-year-old Erick Hutchins lying unresponsive on the front porch of an abandoned residence, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel, along with the Jefferson County Coroner, pronounced him deceased at the scene.
