On June 4, 2019, 57-year-old Joe Eugene Cleere of Auburn, Alabama, was fatally struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Wire Road and Cox Road. Cleere, an employee of Auburn University's Library System since 2002, was known for his dedication and had received the Auburn University Spirit of Excellence Award in 2017.
