In the quiet town of Goodwater, Alabama, the life of 29-year-old Andre Lamonde Davis was cut short on the evening of Sunday, February 3, 2019. Initial reports suggested a traffic accident, but upon arrival, deputies from the Coosa County Sheriff's Office discovered a more grim reality: Davis, a Black male from Kellyton, had been fatally shot. The county coroner pronounced him dead at the scene, turning a supposed accident investigation into a homicide case.
The investigation into Andre Davis's death was taken over by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations. For years, the case remained cold, leaving his family and community searching for answers. Described as a loving, kind, and big-hearted young man with a contagious laugh, his absence left a significant void. He was a devoted father to two sons, a cherished brother, and a beloved son. His family remembered him as a go-getter with big dreams who never hesitated to help others.
After more than four years of uncertainty, a breakthrough in the case brought a sense of closure to the long-standing investigation. On May 4, 2023, the Coosa County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Leadam Qunitez Kelly in connection with Davis's murder. Kelly was taken into custody and charged with Capital Murder. A search warrant executed at his residence also led to drug-related charges, including drug trafficking and possession of marijuana, after authorities discovered over a pound of marijuana and more than 120 grams of synthetic marijuana. The arrest was a result of the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies.
