On New Year's Day 2022, Timothy Dean Pinson, a 32-year-old male, was found deceased in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 800 block of Cable Car Court, just off Valley Avenue in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Pinson had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was discovered unresponsive inside a silver sedan by a community member arriving home at approximately 7:40 a.m.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene and officially pronounced him deceased.
Investigators believe the shooting could have occurred anytime between the previous night and the morning he was found. In the days following the discovery, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office sought the public's help in locating his family, noting that Pinson had previously resided in Gardendale in 2018 and might have relatives in Sylacauga. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, he was the youngest of six siblings and was remembered as a gifted athlete in his youth who had overcome juvenile arthritis. He had recently returned to Alabama to be with his family following the death of his father.
As of early 2022, authorities had not made any arrests in connection with the homicide and had not publicly identified any suspects. The Birmingham Police Department's Homicide Division urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation, with Crime Stoppers offering a cash reward for tips leading to an arrest. His family and friends held a graveside service and a celebration of life, remembering a man who was passionate about mental health and homelessness, and who enjoyed creating and sharing his own music.
