In the early hours of Labor Day, September 4, 2023, a night of leisure in Birmingham, Alabama, turned into a scene of tragedy and violence that claimed the life of 24-year-old Markiezia Deactrius Atkins. The incident unfolded around 2:35 a.m. outside the Aria Lounge and Restaurant located on 5th Avenue North in the Smithfield area, where gunfire erupted, shattering the peace and leaving multiple people wounded.
