In the early hours of October 28, 2023, the life of Rodger Davis, a 65-year-old male and U.S. Navy veteran, was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 1:40 a.m., Birmingham police responded to a report of a person shot in the 600 block of 13th Street Ensley. Upon their arrival, they discovered Davis unresponsive. Despite the immediate attention of Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it stemmed from an argument between Davis and a man he knew, 57-year-old Timothy Lee Williams. The nature of their dispute was not publicly detailed, but it escalated to a fatal encounter. Several hours after the shooting, authorities located and apprehended Williams in the 700 block of 19th Street South. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Rodger Davis.
Timothy Lee Williams's case proceeded to trial in Jefferson County, with proceedings beginning on a Monday under the oversight of Circuit Judge Michael Streety. By noon on the following Wednesday, a jury had reached a guilty verdict, convicting Williams of murder. Following the conviction, Williams, who had been out on bond, was taken back into custody at the Jefferson County Jail to await his sentencing, which was scheduled for November 10. Davis's family, who described him as a beloved grandfather of three, expressed their gratitude for the justice served.
