On the evening of December 13, 2023, in Birmingham, Alabama, gunfire shattered the night in the Norwood Bottoms neighborhood, leading to a double homicide that claimed the life of 19-year-old Kayla Hall. Hall, a Black female from Hanceville, was with two other people in a white Ford Focus when they were targeted in what police believe was a deliberate attack in the 1700 block of 32nd Place North.
Inside the car, riddled with bullet holes, were Hall and 25-year-old Keithan Parker of
Pinson. A third individual, a female, was also shot and critically injured. In a desperate attempt to find help, the surviving victim drove the car to a Chevron gas station at 3019 12th Avenue North. It was there that emergency services were called at approximately 8:35 p.m. upon reports of a person shot.
When North Precinct officers arrived at the gas station, they discovered the grim scene inside the Ford Focus. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced both Kayla Hall and Keithan Parker deceased at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds. The third victim was rushed to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the case as a double homicide. To date, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. In the months following the shooting, Hall's family has made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward to bring them some measure of peace and justice. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Investigators continue to seek clues and witnesses to solve the killings of Kayla Hall and Keithan Parker.
