On the evening of September 3, 2025, Aldorthia Burrell, an 82-year-old Black woman, was on the front porch of her home on Balsam Avenue in the Jones Valley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, with her daughter. What began as a peaceful evening was shattered by the sound of a nearby argument, followed by gunfire.
