In the early evening of April 27, 2024, Dexter Antonio Buchanan, a 36-year-old Black male, was returning to a residence in Center Point, Alabama. At approximately 6:50 p.m., as he was stepping out of his vehicle in the 400 block of 16th Court NW, another car, a white four-door Mercedes, suddenly pulled up.
From the Mercedes, four to five masked men emerged and immediately opened fire on Buchanan. He was struck multiple times in the sudden and violent ambush.
The assailants quickly got back into their vehicle and fled the scene, disappearing into the neighborhood.
When deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrived at the location, they found Buchanan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators have not publicly identified the unknown shooters, and no arrests have been made in the ongoing homicide investigation. A cash reward has been offered for any information that leads to an arrest in the case.
