On April 27, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., 36-year-old Dexter Antonio Buchanan of Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot during an assault in the 1600 block of 5th Street Northwest in Center Point. Responding deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office found Buchanan unresponsive at the scene; he was pronounced dead at 6:03 p.m.
