Jermaine Aldridge, a 27-year-old Black man, was killed in Memphis on September 14, 2015, after a confrontation that unfolded outside the apartment of his girlfriend, Jovan Townsend, in the Whitehaven area. According to court records, Aldridge and Eddie Smith—Townsend’s former boyfriend—exchanged words in the parking lot; witnesses described Aldridge calling out to Smith as tempers escalated.
