In the late hours of a November evening in Memphis, Tennessee, gunfire erupted in an apartment complex near the airport, leaving a scene of violence and tragedy. When police arrived at the Metropolitan Circle apartment on November 29, 2020, they found 31-year-old Christopher Hudson near the front door, having been shot to death. Another man, Javon Cork, was also found deceased inside the apartment, while two others were critically wounded in the exchange of gunfire.
Investigators
determined that several armed men had entered the apartment in an attempted robbery, demanding that the occupants 'drop it off.' This demand quickly escalated into a shootout. In the aftermath, the Shelby County District Attorney's Office announced that a grand jury had indicted three men in connection with the deadly incident. Cornelius Ward, Kobe Westbrooks, and Marcus Greer were charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted especially aggravated robbery, and other felony firearm offenses.
The investigation revealed that Ward was one of the men who entered the apartment with a gun. He was also shot during the altercation and was later located at a hospital after being dropped off by a private vehicle. Ward and Westbrooks were identified and charged shortly after the shooting, while Greer was apprehended following a traffic stop several months later in July of the following year. While Hudson was mourned by his family as a loving father and business owner, the District Attorney's official statement also identified him as a suspect in the incident.
