On August 1, 2008, in Birmingham, Alabama, 42-year-old Martez Collins was fatally shot while driving on Messer Airport Highway. His SUV crashed into a tree in the median around 9 p.m., where he was found unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. A 36-year-old woman passenger was also injured and transported to UAB Hospital; her condition was not disclosed. At the time, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
