A man is found gunned down in the street
In the early evening of Thursday, January 9, 1975, the sound of several gunshots shattered the quiet of the 800 block of Shurney Lane in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Responding to a call at approximately 7:20 p.m., police and rescue personnel arrived to a grim scene. There, they discovered Marshall Hamilton, a 64-year-old Black male, suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Mr. Hamilton succumbed to his injury.
The subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Hamilton, a local septic tank business owner and operator, was the victim of a homicide. An autopsy conducted by the State Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of death. At the time of his death, he was described as being 6-foot-0 and weighing 200 pounds, with black and grey hair and brown eyes.
Detectives determined that several individuals were in the vicinity when the fatal shooting occurred and may hold crucial information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case. The Virginia Beach Police Department continues to investigate this cold case homicide. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The motive for the murder of Marshall Hamilton remains unknown.
