An arguement turns deadly In the summer of 1993, a young life was tragically cut short on a street in Virginia Beach. On the evening of July 14th, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 3700 block of Mainsail Court, within the Twin Canal apartment complex. Arriving at the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m., they discovered 19-year-old Dedric Mason, a Black male, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.
He was swiftly transported to a local hospital, but his injury proved to be fatal.
According to witnesses at the scene, an argument had erupted between Mason and two other Black males shortly before the fatal shot was fired. In the moments that followed the heated exchange, one of the men shot Mason, who was then seen falling to the ground. The two suspects were observed fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. They reportedly got into a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Cadillac Seville or El Dorado that had temporary license plates, and were last seen driving south on Lynnhaven Parkway.
The State Medical Examiner's Office later ruled Dedric Mason's death a homicide. Despite the witness accounts and the description of the suspects' vehicle, no arrests have ever been made in the case. The investigation into the death of Dedric Mason remains an active cold case with the Virginia Beach Police Department.
