On June 28, 2004, a tragic double homicide occurred in Virginia Beach, where 7-year-old Jonathan Vetrano and his mother, Lois Schmidt, were brutally murdered in their home. The crime shocked the community as both victims were shot, and their house was set on fire in an attempt to cover up the killings. The family dog was also killed during the attack.
