A man is found bleeding to death in a pawn shop On a Tuesday evening, April 8, 1997, the routine of a Virginia Beach pawn shop was shattered by violence. Inside the Military Highway Pawn located in the 700 block of Military Highway, 65-year-old Joseph Haught, a white male, was discovered bleeding from a gunshot wound. A call was made to 911 at approximately 6:00 p.m. to report a man suffering from a gunshot injury.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and found Mr. Haught inside the pawn shop.
He was immediately transported to the Trauma Center at Norfolk General Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he remained on life support until he succumbed to his injury the following day, on April 9, 1997.
The Virginia Medical Examiner's Office later ruled his death a homicide. The Virginia Beach Police Department opened an investigation into the shooting. However, despite their efforts over the years, the case remains an active and unsolved homicide. No arrests have been made, and authorities continue to seek information from the public that might lead to the person or persons responsible for Joseph Haught's death.
