A man is found in the roadway bleeding to death
On a Tuesday morning, January 3, 2006, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet near the intersection of Old Virginia Beach Road and Barberton Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. At approximately 8:30 a.m., police responded to reports and discovered the body of a Black male lying in the roadway. The man, later identified as 34-year-old Shawn Gary John, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.
Shawn Gary John, who resided near the area where his body was found, was described as being 5' 10' tall, weighing 190 pounds, with brown eyes and black receding hair. He also wore prescription glasses. Following the discovery, his body was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, which confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound and the manner of death as a homicide.
The investigation into the death of Shawn Gary John remains an active and unsolved case. The Virginia Beach Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information from the public that could lead to an arrest and conviction in the nearly two-decade-old murder. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his death.
