On a November evening in 2017, the life of 21-year-old Terry Sherrell was tragically cut short. Responding to a call of shots fired on Judd Drive in Nashville at approximately 7 p.m. on November 11, police officers found Sherrell critically wounded. He succumbed to his injuries the following day. At the time of his death, Sherrell was a student at Tennessee State University, pursuing a degree in Business Management with dreams of becoming an entrepreneur.
A graduate of Hunters Lane High School, where he was a popular running back on the football team, he was remembered by family for his striking smile and his kind, respectable nature.
The investigation into the young man's death pointed to robbery as a potential motive. For years, the case progressed without an arrest, leaving his family waiting for justice. His mother, Nicole Sherrell Jackson, expressed the profound pain of losing her son, who she described as a good kid loved by all who knew him. The long wait for answers was a heavy burden for the family, who felt that the investigation had stalled.
In March 2019, a significant breakthrough occurred when Victor A. Walls was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Sherrell. Despite the indictment, Walls remained a fugitive, evading law enforcement. The search for the suspect continued for nearly three more years. Finally, in January 2022, four years after Sherrell's death, the 25-year-old Walls was located and taken into custody in Gallatin, Tennessee. His arrest was made on unrelated drug and resisting arrest charges, bringing an end to the long manhunt and offering a measure of closure to a grieving family.
