In the early morning hours of September 19, 2007, the body of 37-year-old Nicole E. Bennett, an African-American female, was discovered by a passerby in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was found behind a vacant row house on Formosa Way, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. Her death was quickly ruled a homicide by the Allegheny County medical examiner. Near her body, a bicycle, presumed to be hers, was also found.
