In the summer of 2014, the life of 47-year-old Dana Elaine Miller was tragically cut short in what police determined to be a murder-suicide. On the evening of August 6th, authorities were called to a home in Jackson Township, a community in Butler County near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Inside, they discovered Dana, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Also in the home was her 52-year-old estranged husband, Jeffrey Alan Miller, who was found with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The couple's 18-year-old son made the grim discovery of his parents' bodies. At the time of the incident, Dana and Jeffrey were going through a divorce, and she had moved out of their shared residence to a home in the nearby Cranberry Township. The investigation by law enforcement concluded that Jeffrey Miller shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
Dana was a mother to three children and was remembered by friends and family as a warm, outgoing, and caring individual who was deeply dedicated to her family. She was a graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School and held a bachelor's degree in marketing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as a master's degree in business from Robert Morris College. Prior to her death, there were indications of a tumultuous relationship. Court records and family statements revealed a history of domestic strife, including an attempt by Dana to obtain a protection from abuse order against her husband. However, her husband had previously accused her of violence, which complicated her efforts to seek legal protection. As the perpetrator of the murder took his own life, there were no arrests or subsequent criminal proceedings in connection with Dana Miller's death.
