On New Year's Day 2022, the life of 19-year-old Amariey Lei was tragically cut short in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. A Black transgender woman, Amariey was found shot to death on Wood Street, her death marking a sorrowful start to the new year for her family and the local community. The vibrant and tall 19-year-old, who was in the process of transitioning, was remembered by loved ones as a 'very vibrant light and a very joyful life.'
