In the evening hours of February 20, 2025, a quiet street in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood became the scene of a chilling discovery. A car had crashed into a parked SUV on Dearborn Street, and when authorities responded, they found a grim reality. Inside the vehicle and just outside it, two lives had been tragically cut short. Dameon Hill, a 35-year-old Black man from Pittsburgh, was found deceased in the front passenger seat.
The driver, 24-year-old Taquaila Lynn Daniels, was found just outside the driver's side door. Both had been fatally shot in the back of the head.
The scene was made even more poignant by the presence of a two-year-old child, who was found unharmed in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. The toddler was taken to a local children's hospital for evaluation. Investigators believe the shooter was inside the car with Hill and Daniels at the time of the killings. This theory is supported by the discovery of shell casings within the vehicle, indicating the shots were fired from close range.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man fleeing the area shortly after the crash. The individual was described as wearing a puffy black jacket and a ski mask. Despite this lead, and the recovery of evidence from the car, no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to search for the person responsible for this violent act that left a community in shock and two families grieving their profound loss. Friends remembered Dameon Hill as a joyful person who was dedicated to mentoring youth, particularly through coaching football.
