On October 22, 2023, at approximately 3 p.m., 21-year-old Pittsburgh resident Heaven Budd was fatally shot while waiting at a bus stop near the intersection of Finance Street and North Homewood Avenue, close to the East Busway overpass in the Homewood South neighborhood. The incident occurred in broad daylight, near a mural dedicated to promoting peace and opposing gun violence.
