On December 21, 2015, 20-year-old Akeilah Solomon was tragically killed during a violent encounter at her boyfriend's apartment in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood. The incident occurred after Kadeem Williams, 25, allegedly entered the apartment through a bathroom window in an attempted robbery, leading to a deadly exchange of gunfire. In the ensuing confrontation, Meiko Devaughn, Solomon's boyfriend, fired shots, inadvertently killing both Solomon and his visiting 16-year-old brother,
Jaimill Kenney. Williams, the alleged intruder, was also fatally shot, with his body found behind the building.
Investigators discovered that Devaughn’s weapon had been previously reported stolen and was linked to the bullets that killed all three victims. Despite the deaths, authorities did not charge Devaughn with homicide, as Pennsylvania’s Castle Doctrine allows individuals to defend themselves against intruders in their homes. However, Devaughn faced charges related to illegal firearm possession and drug offenses after police found cash and marijuana in the apartment.
