On what should have been a joyous celebration of her 19th birthday, Jayla Brown, a young Black woman from Pittsburgh, was tragically killed in a hail of gunfire in the early morning hours of August 9, 2007. She was the innocent victim of a targeted shooting in the Lawrenceville neighborhood, a devastating end to what had been a celebratory first date.
