In the early hours of a Saturday morning in April 2008, Aaron Jenkins, a 37-year-old male state constable from East Hills, was socializing with a fellow constable at Club 22/Rendezvous in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood. The two men, who were friends and colleagues, had spent several hours inside the bar without any issues. However, the night took a tragic turn after they departed the establishment.
Shortly after 1:15 a.m., as Jenkins and his 24-year-old companion from Penn Hills were
in a parking lot across the street, an attacker opened fire from the opposite side of the road. Jenkins was struck by bullets in the shoulder and the side. Despite being mortally wounded, he managed to draw his own weapon and fire two shots in the direction of his assailant, believing he may have hit the person. His friend was also seriously injured in the attack, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
Both men were rushed to UPMC Presbyterian in critical condition. Two days later, on a Monday, Aaron Jenkins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His friend was expected to survive his injuries. At the time of the initial investigation, Pittsburgh police had not identified a suspect or determined a motive for the shooting. Law enforcement officials hoped to gain more insight into the events of that night by interviewing the surviving victim once his condition improved. Despite the ongoing investigation, publicly available information does not indicate that any arrests were ever made in connection with the murder of Aaron Jenkins.
