In the early hours of a Saturday morning in late February 2011, a dispute inside a North Philadelphia bar escalated to deadly violence, claiming the life of 26-year-old Christopher Keeys. The altercation, which took place at a tavern located on the 2600 block of Sergeant Street, tragically cut short the young man's life. He was a resident of the nearby West Huntingdon Street.
The fight, the cause of which was not immediately clear, spiraled out of control, resulting in a chaotic scene.
During the melee, Christopher Keeys was shot multiple times in his back and side. The severity of his injuries prompted a rush to Temple University Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 1:26 a.m.
The violence within the bar was not limited to the fatal attack on Keeys. Two other men were also wounded in the incident. One, a 43-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh. Another man, aged 32, was stabbed in the leg. Both were also transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police had not identified any suspects and no arrests had been made. The investigation into the death of Christopher Keeys and the accompanying assaults was launched, but information regarding any subsequent arrests or the identification of a suspect has not been made publicly available in the years that have followed.
