In the winter of 2010, the city of Birmingham, Alabama, was the scene of a heart-wrenching crime that has since remained a mystery. On the morning of December 27th, a customer and an employee of the Top Perfect Nail salon on Bessemer Road made a grim discovery. Inside the salon, they found the owners, Nhut Phan, a female, and her husband, Jacky Nguyen, both victims of a brutal double homicide.
The scene that greeted them was one of violence and tragedy.
Jacky Nguyen was found slumped against a wall in the back of the salon, while Nhut Phan was discovered in a chair in the back office. Both had been shot in the head. The couple, who were described as well-loved members of their community, were known for their kindness and for occasionally keeping their salon open late to accommodate clients. Authorities believe this generosity may have been exploited by their killer or killers.
The last time Nhut Phan and Jacky Nguyen were seen alive was around 4:00 p.m. the previous day, as other employees were leaving for the day. While the salon was scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m., it was not unusual for the couple to stay later. Investigators have considered robbery as a possible motive for the senseless murders, though the case has grown cold over the years.
To this day, the murders of Nhut Phan and Jacky Nguyen remain unsolved, and no arrests have been made. Their family continues to seek answers and justice for the couple's tragic deaths. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case, a testament to the community's and law enforcement's lingering hope for a resolution.
