On the morning of July 6, 2011, the body of 18-year-old Andre Nathaniel Lewis was discovered in North Birmingham, Alabama. An employee arriving for work at Star Truck Parts found the young Black man lying on the ground inside the fenced compound of the business. Lewis, who was not an employee of the company, had been shot multiple times in the back.
Investigators at the scene found evidence suggesting a possible motive for the homicide. Several diesel truck drive shafts were found stacked at the back of the property, a placement that employees confirmed was out of the ordinary. This led police to suspect that the person or persons responsible for Lewis's death may have been attempting to steal the truck parts. It remains unclear what led to Lewis being at the location that morning.
Despite the passage of time, the case of Andre Nathaniel Lewis's murder remains unsolved. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with his death. The Birmingham Police Department's investigation is ongoing, and the case is now considered a cold case.
