A Birmingham man Monday was ordered to serve six months in the county jail for his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge in the 2011 beating death of a homeless man at a motel.
Gregory Chancey, 38, was sentenced by Jefferson County Circuit Judge Teresa Pulliam to a split one-year sentence, with six months to serve in the Jefferson County Jail.
Chancey was tried for murder in September 2014. But Pulliam declared a mistrial after the jury foreman told her they were deadlocked
