In the quiet hours of a Monday evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 20-year-old Nehemiah Williams Wren was tragically cut short. On January 13, 2025, police responded to a call and discovered a wrecked vehicle near an abandoned field in the 4100 block of 46th Avenue North. Inside the car, they found Wren, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial discovery launched a homicide investigation as authorities began to piece together the events that led to the young man's demise.
The investigation into Wren's death continued for several months. Then, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Birmingham Police Department's Special Operations Bureau Tactical Unit apprehended two individuals in connection with the murder. The suspects were taken into custody in the 2000 block of Woodrow Avenue in Tarrant, Alabama, marking a significant development in the case that had gripped the community.
Following the arrests, the Birmingham Police Department identified the suspects as 26-year-old Landon Jones III, a Black male from Tarrant, and a 17-year-old juvenile. Detectives presented their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, which led to capital murder warrants being issued for both Jones and the teenage suspect. Both individuals are currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond as they await legal proceedings.
