On the evening of January 23, 2025, a young Black man named Kejuan Gibson, age 20, lost his life on a sidewalk in a Birmingham, Alabama neighborhood. The night was shattered by the sound of gunfire around 8:30 p.m. in the Fountain Heights area, prompting multiple calls to 911. The reports all told a similar story: someone had been shot in the 1400 block of 12th Avenue North.
