On a Sunday afternoon in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 30-year-old DaOntay Dawon Jarrett, a Black male, was tragically cut short. It was December 5, 2021, when gunfire erupted in the parking lot of the Adona Apartment Complex located in the 900 block of Aspen Drive. Responding to calls of a person with a gun, and later, a person shot, South Precinct officers arrived at the scene at approximately 3:00 p.m. to a grim discovery.
Jarrett was found lying unresponsive on a staircase, having sustained a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly after and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation painted a harrowing picture of the events that transpired. Jarrett was reportedly walking in the parking lot when an unknown assailant, traveling in a silver sedan, opened fire, fatally wounding him.
