William Nikos Davis, known affectionately to his loved ones as “Nik,” was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 22, 1995. He was the eldest son of Victoria “Vik” Davis and D. “Vito” Davis. William, a 31-year-old man, was educated in both Raleigh and Charlotte public schools, and he was a graduate of Olympic High School in Charlotte. Those who knew him have remembered the moments of joy he brought into their lives and the positive influence he had.
His family and many friends cherished him, reflecting on shared memories and the enduring bonds they created. His memory is a source of comfort for the large circle of people who loved him, including his parents, his brother Vincent, his grandparents, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and treasured friends.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026, William’s life was cut short by gun violence. Shortly after 2 a.m., police responded to an assault call in the parking lot of a business strip in the 200 block of West Woodlawn Road, near Wallingford Street and Interstate 77 in south Charlotte. When officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered two people who had been shot. William had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased in the parking lot. A second person was also shot during the incident and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from which they were expected to recover.
The investigation into William’s death was immediately launched by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit, with Detective Dougherty assigned as the lead on the case. Crime scene investigators processed the parking lot, collecting physical evidence, while detectives began seeking information about what led to the shooting. No motive for the violence was immediately released to the public. The area where the shooting occurred, a commercial corridor with offices and hotels, had seen other violent incidents in the past, though it was not clear if this was connected.
As the investigation continued, police asked for the public’s help. On Thursday, October 22, 2026, the CMPD released a photograph of a person of interest they were seeking to identify in connection with the homicide. The image showed a man wearing a dark-colored shirt and a chain. Detectives did not release further details about why they believed this individual was linked to the shooting. No arrests have been announced, and as of late October 2026, the case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
In the wake of his death, William’s family and friends gathered to honor his life. A visitation was held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the World Worship Church in Charlotte, followed by a celebration of his life at the same location. A graveside service was later held on Saturday, October 24, at The Mackey Family Cemetery. His obituary noted the difficult adjustment for his loved ones, who would no longer be able to spend time with him. The loss of William was a profound one, leaving behind a family and community to grapple with his sudden and violent death.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continues to ask for assistance from the community.
