Douglas Quentez Griffin, known affectionately to his family and friends as “Quinn,” was a fun-loving and energetic man whose presence brought laughter and joy to those around him. Born on April 5, 1991, in Lee County, Alabama, the 35-year-old Opelika resident never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved. He had a deep passion for music and a unique sense of style, always dressing with confidence and personality. A devoted fan of Alabama football, he proudly supported the Crimson Tide, and his enthusiastic "Roll Tide!" was a familiar refrain. Above all, Quinn loved his family dearly and treasured the time he spent with them. He is remembered for his high-spirited personality, his infectious energy, and a favorite saying: “Say no more.”

Douglas leaves behind a large and loving family to cherish his memory, including his son, Zayden King Griffin; his mother, Barbara Griffin; his father, Douglas Martin; his grandmother, Patricia Martin; and numerous brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. From an early age, he was a member of the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Cusseta, Alabama, where he had confessed his faith in Christ. His life, full of connections and shared moments, left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

On the evening of Friday, October 2, 2026, the life of Douglas Griffin was tragically cut short. Deputies from the Chambers County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a shooting on County Road 26, a rural route in the eastern part of the state. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered Douglas unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported him to East Alabama Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their work quickly led to a suspect, and investigators arrested 40-year-old Queston Vantavis Perry, also of Opelika. Perry was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Douglas Griffin's death. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Chambers County Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.

The community mourned the sudden loss of a man known for his vibrant spirit. Family and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes and support one another. A public viewing was held on Friday, October 9, 2026. The following day, a funeral service was held at noon at the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, the same church he had joined as a boy. Douglas was laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service. In their time of bereavement, his family expressed their gratitude for all the acts of kindness, prayers, and words of comfort they received.

As of October 2026, the case against Queston Vantavis Perry is proceeding through the justice system. The Chambers County Sheriff's Office has stated that their investigation remains active and ongoing.
