In the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026, the community of Evergreen, Alabama, was shaken by an act of violence that resulted in the death of 19-year-old Melvontaie Loveless. The incident, a shooting that left multiple people wounded, unfolded in the 100 block of West Front Street. Law enforcement and emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 12:40 a.m. to find a chaotic situation with several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Melvontaie Loveless, a resident of Greenville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that night also claimed the life of another young man, 20-year-old Jakale Herbert. Herbert was transported from the scene to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
