On September 11, 2026, a tragic event unfolded on Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, leading to the death of 29-year-old Dani Smith of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle with two other individuals when she was fatally shot. According to prosecutors, the shot was fired from within the vehicle, striking her in the back of the head while another person was driving. Law enforcement responded to the scene near Exit 68 around 4:50 p.m. and discovered Smith with a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for medical attention.
