On a tragic Tuesday morning in Columbus, Georgia, the life of Alexis Hill, a 44-year-old mother and grandmother, was abruptly cut short in a senseless act of violence. On June 23, 2026, while working her shift as a manager at a Dollar General store, Hill was shot and killed over a transaction for a $1.58 package of hamburger buns. The man, identified as 33-year-old Jerome Marquis Willis, handed her two crumpled dollar bills.
As she attempted to smooth them out to place in the cash register, Willis pulled out a gun and fatally shot her. The entire horrifying incident was captured on the store's surveillance video, which Columbus Police Chief Stoney Mathis later described as a "cold-blooded murder." Alexis Hill was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 10:46 a.m.
