On a summer evening in Columbus, Georgia, the life of 41-year-old Tekellaya Jackson Stewart came to a tragic and violent end. On July 12, 2024, law enforcement responded to a distressing 911 call from a residence in the 1100 block of Richland Drive, initially reporting that a woman had been shot. A subsequent call from a child within the home reported that a man had also been shot, adding to the horror of the unfolding events.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the bodies of
Tekellaya Jackson Stewart, a Black female, and her 51-year-old husband, Vincent Stewart, in the bathroom of their home. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:50 P.M. The Muscogee County Coroner's Office swiftly determined the case to be a murder-suicide.
The investigation concluded that Vincent Stewart shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself. With the perpetrator deceased, the case is considered solved, leaving behind a community to mourn the devastating loss of Tekellaya Jackson Stewart to domestic violence.
