In Columbus, Georgia, a Saturday afternoon was shattered by gunfire that ended the life of 32-year-old Shantavia Rubyann Walden. On March 16, 2024, Walden was found inside a vehicle on Schaul Street near Ada Avenue. She had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 P.M. Another individual, Gerald Ford, was also shot and transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional in critical condition.
The investigation into the double shooting led authorities to identify a suspect, Walter
Young. An extensive investigation was conducted by the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Investigators. With the assistance of the United States Marshal Service Gulf Coast Task Force, Young was located and apprehended in Montgomery, Alabama.
Following his arrest, Young was held in the Montgomery County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Georgia. He faces a series of serious charges in Muscogee County, including Murder, Aggravated Assault, and six counts of Cruelty to Children. Additionally, he is charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Theft by Taking.
