In the winter of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Sara Angelia Holtrop was tragically cut short in Columbus, Georgia. On the evening of February 10th, Holtrop was found with a gunshot wound at a residence on Carmel Drive. She was rushed to Piedmont Regional Hospital, but sadly succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:47 P.M.
Holtrop, a senior at Harris County High School, was born in Guatemala and was described by friends and family as a kind, compassionate, and loving
individual with a bright future. She was an active member of her church community and worked part-time as a hostess and waitress. Her aspirations included becoming a veterinarian and she was also exploring the possibility of a career in the Air Force. She was known for her willingness to help others, especially those in need.
The investigation into her death led to the arrest of 20-year-old Elijah Farral. According to police testimony, Farral and two friends were handling a loaded handgun when it discharged, striking Holtrop who was asleep on a nearby couch. The shooting was described as accidental. Farral was subsequently charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct in connection with Holtrop's death.
Following his arrest, Farral was released on bond. In a turn of events, on the evening of October 3, 2023, Elijah Farral was shot and killed in an unrelated incident at the intersection of 10th Street and Rigdon Road in Columbus. He was pronounced dead at the emergency room of Piedmont Columbus Regional. At the time of his death, the case against him for the death of Sara Angelia Holtrop was still pending.
