On a Tuesday evening in late August, the sense of normalcy at the Grove Park Apartments in Columbus, Georgia, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On August 27, 2024, just before 9 p.m., police received a call about a shooting at the complex. When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old Black female, Jabreia Burston, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of the medical team, Jabreia Burston succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead the following afternoon, on August 28, 2024. The Muscogee County Coroner's office officially ruled her death a homicide.
The investigation into the violent death of the young woman, who was a certified barber, began to unfold in the weeks and months that followed. More than a year later, on October 31, 2025, the Columbus Police Department announced the first arrest in connection with the case. Marques Lattimore, 22 years old at the time, was taken into custody. He faced a series of serious charges, including Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. In his court appearance, Lattimore pleaded not guilty to all charges but was denied bond.
A few days later, on November 4, 2025, a second arrest was made. The Columbus Police Department's Fugitive Unit apprehended 31-year-old Keshon Corbin. He was also charged with Murder in the death of Jabreia Burston, adding another layer to the ongoing investigation into the tragic loss of a young life. The case was then bound over to the Superior Court for further legal proceedings.
