Mozelle Barbee, 53, a Black woman, was found fatally wounded in an apartment in the 400 block of 20th Avenue off Cusseta Road in south Columbus on the evening of July 5, 2025. Officers had been dispatched around 5:27 p.m. for a welfare check and discovered her with gunshot wounds; she was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m. by the Muscogee County Coroner.
