In the winter of 2023, a shooting at a Motel 6 in Columbus, Georgia, claimed the life of 50-year-old Tonya Michelle Carter. The incident, which occurred on the evening of February 18th, also resulted in the immediate deaths of her husband, Michael Carter Sr., 54, and their son, Michael Carter Jr., 19. Both men were found with gunshot wounds inside their motel room and were pronounced dead at the scene.
