The circumstances of her death were heartbreaking, as she was found in the parking lot of the Springfield Crossing Apartments. Despite being rushed to the Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital emergency room, she was ultimately pronounced dead.
The investigation into her death
swiftly led to a suspect, her own son. Caron Giles, who was 18 years old at the time, was arrested and accused of the murder of his mother, Lachasta Giles. Authorities alleged that she died from a shooting. In a court appearance on Friday, October 25, 2019, in Columbus Recorder's Court, Caron Giles entered a plea of not guilty to the murder charge. Represented by a public defender, the case was bound over to the Superior Court for further legal proceedings.
