In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic situation, 26-year-old Lora Gilbert was found deceased in the backyard of a home in north Columbus, Georgia, on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Lora, a female, was discovered alongside her estranged husband, 25-year-old Jeffrey Gilbert. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The couple was reportedly going through a divorce, and the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Authorities believe that Jeffrey Gilbert shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself. Evidence suggests that the. 45 caliber pistol used in the incident was purchased by Jeffrey just hours before their bodies were discovered.
Lora Gilbert's last known contact was on the Monday evening prior to the discovery of her body. An autopsy was ordered for both individuals to confirm the sequence of events. Jeffrey Gilbert was a veteran of the Army and had been discharged due to a traumatic brain injury. It was also reported that he suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
