In the fall of 2022, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Columbus, Georgia, forever altering the lives of a local family. On October 10th, nineteen-month-old Eleanor 'Ellie' Louise Dietz, a female, was found deceased at a residence on Hilton Avenue. Her life, filled with the simple joys of cuddling stuffed animals and chasing bubbles, was cut tragically short.
Ellie, who was known for her mischievous smile and love for the song 'Itsy-Bitsy Spider,' had a curious and vibrant spirit.
The devastating event also claimed the life of her 64-year-old grandmother, Ursula Dietz. Both Eleanor and her grandmother were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. The Muscogee County Coroner's Office officially ruled their deaths as homicides, confirming the violent nature of their passing. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, leaving friends and family to grapple with an unimaginable loss.
In the wake of the double homicide, law enforcement officials swiftly identified a suspect. Kevin Dietz, the 25-year-old son of Ursula Dietz and the uncle of young Eleanor, was taken into custody. He was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges in connection with the deaths. The Columbus Police Department booked him on two counts of murder, as well as one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, as they began the process of seeking justice for the violent end to two innocent lives.
