In the early evening of June 27, 2026, the life of 20-year-old Correnthian Jeremiah Cooks was tragically cut short in Cordele, Georgia. A former honor student at Crisp County High School and a U.S. Navy sailor, Cooks was in the 1000 block of Dayton Road at approximately 6:45 p.m. when gunfire erupted. Cordele police officers responded to reports of a shooting and found Cooks and another man with gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. While the second victim was treated for his injuries and later released, Cooks succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The investigation into the death of Correnthian Cooks was swiftly taken over by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Just two days after the fatal shooting, on June 29, 2026, four individuals were arrested in connection with the incident. The suspects were identified as 17-year-old Bianca Armani King-Knight of Crisp County, 19-year-old Trenton Donnell Lane of Wilcox County, 17-year-old Kaylee Posey of Crisp County, and 19-year-old William Troy Posey, also of Crisp County. All four were taken into custody and booked into the Crisp County Jail.
Following their arrest, the GBI formally announced the charges against the four suspects on July 10, 2026. Each of the four individuals—King-Knight, Lane, Kaylee Posey, and William Troy Posey—has been charged with one count of felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault. The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing. Upon its completion, the case will be handed over to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution. As of now, there have been no convictions or sentencing in the case, as it is still in the early stages of the legal process.
